maybe it is muted there.
edit:probably not you call youtube a program ;)
I call it a website.
I have the sound on monitor for game trailers but I don't wanna switch this everytime.
i suffered the same issues as mentioned in the previous / above comments n i've found the ultimate solution. theres 2 prime things that u need to do.
1st - ensure the steam video volume is turned on, bc as they've already mentioned its default to muted. steam should provide us w a feature to monitor the default sounds
2nd - i found this 1 myself by playin around n tweaking w the sound panel. in the bottom ride side of windows taskbar, right click on the speaker icon n tap on open volume mixer. there try finding steam client webhelper n unmute it. its the prime reason for the videos or game trailers still being muted in the app.
if u're using steam on chrome or another browser, there shouldnt be such an issue. for anymore help regarding this, u can add me on steam n dm me. i can further help u sort ya mic problems as well if there're any.
happy gaming!
THANK YOU. Finally sound is back in trailers. That Steam client webhelper was muted for whatever reason.
Again thank you very much for help.
THANK YOU Mate. I've done everything but somehow miss the mute speaker icon.
I know this was a very old post from 2015 (10 years ago wow!) but I have to say this:
Was this really the best you were able to do to help this guy to find a solution to the audio issue? Basically you said "turn the volume on and Youtube is not a program"...
Wow...
Besides there is the Youtube APP for mobile and desktop then yes, Youtube IS also a program. And he didn't call Youtube a program, by the way.
Now, for the audio issue: I have the same problem now in 2025, I turned the volume up in my device settings, I also checked the "do not disturb" and it was off. Still the audio won't play. There might be something else to check but as for now I have no clue.
I'm currently using a Samsung tablet and Chrome browser, the Steam trailer videos were silent. The audio icon was ON and the audio bar was on the right side but still no sound was playing.
So I went to my Google Chrome three-dots menu then > Settings > (Advanced) Site settings > (Content) Sound. I turned ON the "allow sites to play sounds" option and there you go! Finally the trailer audio was back again! :)
