Steam infected with a linkbucks adware virus
My Steam application is infected with a virus, everytime I click a link on the store or any of the Steam pages, it redirects me to a linkbucks website where I have to wait 5 seconds.

Screenshot of the adware: Click here[dl.dropboxusercontent.com]

I have tried to remove this by:
- Re-installing Steam (lost all my downloaded games .. )
- Refresh the steam cache (link)
- Running AdwCleaner multiple times
- Running Malwarebytes Anti-Malware
- Running virus scanner (McAfee Anti-Virus)
- Cleaning up pc with CCleaner

The problem is, this adware appeared in my Chrome browser too, and I could remove it successfully with running a CCleaner cleanup, but I cannot get it removed from my Steam software.

Please help me, I can't find any useful articles on Google and I don't want to re-install my Windows. I'm out of hope :(

Yes, I had the problem with Chrome before and I could successfully remove it after doing a CCleaner cleanup. However for some reason it didn't go away in Steam.
Hello,

I've tried doing another cleanup with the updated versions of adwcleaner, hitman pro and ccleaner. And still it did not remove! Wtf
plan B than you were already told what it is.
Also a redirecting thing on your computer..... Can play costly and harming games with you.

Format windows/hard drive and start again. See the very 1st reply. Takes an hour. 1st post was over 10 days ago.
hi i dont know if this will help but i accidently installed a malware called rollingadds and i removed it by clicking on control panel then clicking on uninstall program on the bottom left, i then uninstalled it through there, so im wondering if you might be able to remove it through there aswell
Thanks for the given help, I've re-installed my Windows and it's back to normal now :)
Format/reinstall windows and start again.
I have been running mcafee anti virus protection before this adware appeared, but it just got through it

Who would write malware to be easily removable and detectable?
Especially the obviously and annoying ones.....
