How long does it take for your steam account to activate?

So I have a second account and I'm gonna redeem a steam code on it soon. Does my steam account activate right away or later? Because I read that; in order to trade you must have made a steam purchase older than 30 days. Does that mean once I redeem my steam card it takes a month to trade?

Just redeeming a code won't activate it. Until you actually purchase a game, complete an in-game microtransaction (like in f2p games) or activate a Steam gift (purchased on Steam and gifted to you through Steam, not just a key) you'll have a limited account.

Yes for a verfied account it takes 30 days. Email vefication and the money account you attach it to. Change money account and wait another 30 days. Less time with a debt card attached to a bank account though. Wallet cards the most.

It states: The purchase of wallet funds, games, DLCs and software meet this requirement. Retail CD key activations and gift purchases do not satisfy this requirement.

Even so, I'll probably just buy an item off tf2.
