Screen resolution issue
Hey guys! I just wanted to know how to customize your dota 2 screen resolution on full screen mode.

my screen resolution is 1280 x 800 but i want to do 1280 x 730 while in full screen.
(I want it to have that black screen at the top and bottom of the screen while playing dota 2)

I was able to do it the last time but to be honest I'm not sure how I did it. and I've tried to recall and redo every thing that I did the last time but to no luck... I'm also not sure if it has something to do with the update on the nvidia graphic driver...

the reason why I want to do this is because the laptop that i'm using has some LCD issue that prevents me from seeing the bottom part of the screen (flickering colored lines).

window mode is not an option (dota 2 runs crappy on windowed mode on this device)

I would really need your expertise on this matter guys!

Please help me :(

Thanks in advance. :)

Try this, I won't guarantee it will work, but

  1. Right mouse click the game on your Steam library
  2. Hit Properties
    • General -tab
  3. Set Launch Options...
      -w 1280 -h 730
  4. OK (Launch Options -menu)
  5. Close (Properties -menu)

It didn't work. :'(
i checked on dota 2 video settings after i did that and it still indicated 1280x800 .
it didn't force it to have 730 instead of 800. :(

any more suggestions?

Thanks for your reply though! :)

Tried to look this up, it sounds mostly doable only if you play the game in borderless windowed mode; you can do this by adding in the command

-noborder

@Teutep
yea. in the meantime it's the only thing i could do... I hope we could find another way. :(

@Pike
I cannot change the res in the gpu control panel to a custom res (only has 1280x800 , 1024x768 and 800x600) and I also can't change the settings not scale it..well I tried changing the setting to scale but it always revert back to "Use my display's built in scaling". I'm pretty sure it's because it's an nvidia legacy GPU or i'm missing something...

what do you think is the problem Pike?

I just downloaded another version of the driver of the nvidia GPU I use.

and it actually fixed the problem. I could now customize the res. to 1280 x 720 on full screen mode with the black bars at the top and bottom. :)

Thanks to both of you whom who have shared your precious time with me.
I greatly appreciate your replies and your inputs.

This issue is now resolved.
