No, I did not request to reset my password
I got an email from steam to say I've forgotten my password and sent me a verification code to enter. Well, no I haven't forgotten my password and neither did I request to reset it.

I still seem to be able to log into Steam without a problem.

Is this someone trying to steal my account?

Anything is possible. I think it is best to change the password just in case.

Yes, if you are absolutely positive you did not request it yourself. That means that someone knows your steam secret question & account name.

1. Change secret answer (and don't make it obvious).
2. Make sure that Steam guard is enabled.
3. Double check that your email is also secured.

It might not be necessary, but changing Steam password would not heart. Don't use same passwords for Steam and email. All the information must be confidential and known to you only.

If you have done all of that, your account would be practically impossible to "hack". Remember that so far 100% of stolen Steam accounts happened due to user negligence and social engineering.

Impossible for anyone to know my secret question answer unless they've known me personally for many years...and made an educated guess.

And even failure to secure secret question, would not compromise your account due to Steam guard.

I already changed my email password.

Mozart, yes the reason I got the email from Steam in the first place was because of Steam Guard. Good thing I had that.

I sent Steam a support ticket. I'll changed my account password and security question after they've responded. Thanks.

Change as much as you can

I changed both my account password and security question.

To be honest, anyone determined enough could guess or find the answers to any of the possible choices for questions. They're stupid. There should at least be an option to ask your own question. I'd have picked something completely impossible for anyone in the entire universe to find out unless they could read minds across time and space.

At the very least Steam should add more than just your bog standard, mothers maiden name and pet name for heavens sake!

This just means that someone knows your AccountName and tried to use the Retrieve a Lost Account with it.

The e-mail also states that if it wasn't by you, you should ignore it. Changing credentials is never a bad idea anyway.

Thanks all.

All done and secure again.... probably!

I just received an e-mail with a password-reset code as well (8 numbers/letters). Seems like its really coming from Steam, so someone knows my account name. But I just tested it myself (I cant login > Forgot password > enter account name) and you DON'T have to enter any Secret Answer when requesting a password reset code!!

Don't do anything with that email, dont click any link. It could be a fake thing, you should not need to do anything with it anyway if it is real.

Sounds like they already did.

Syrah if you can still log-in to Steam request a change of your account password right now. And while you're at it change the password for the email account associated with your Steam account.
