How do I find out how big a game is i cant seem to be able to find how much space is being used up anywhere

also my friend wants to know how big certain games i have are and i just cant find out where except for recently downloaded stuff (like less than 12 hour old downloads)

The size of the game is in the system requirements section of every game's store page right below where the price is. You might have to click on "show more".

but i just read a thread where this amount could be exact or less depending on the developers compression or lack there of

It's not that complicated. Here's the hard disc space requirement for GTAV from its store page for exmaple:
