Can't change steam shortcut target
Recently I have been unable to successfully sign into my steam client.
Each time I go to sign in it tells me that it failed to connect to steam.
I read online that adding -tcp to a shortcut might help.
However after I made the shortcut of the steam.exe file on my desktop I am unable to chance the file's target.
Each time I try it says "The name 'C:\program files(x86)\steam.exe-tcp' specified in the target box is not valid. Make sure that the path and finlename are correct."

So I was wondering, what else do I need to do in order to make this work?

I've tried both
"C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\Steam.exe"-tcp
and
"C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\Steam.exe-tcp"

Both of these give me the same error message I messaged above.

I have tried other ways to try and sign back into my steam client
I've checked my internet connection
Turned my router off for an hour
Checked incase I had a virus a few times (thankfully none were found)
I've checked my firewall permissions
Tried making my firewall relearn steam
Turned off my firewall
Deleted the ClientRegistry.blob file
Uninstalled and reinstalled steam itself
Entering my password wrong then entering it in correctly - this method has got my in twice but I've been unable to succeed in doing it again. At the least I've managed to get into offline mode.
While in offline mode I found that sometimes despite not being able to access my friends from my friends list I could still see their names pop up saying what they are playing. Clicking on their names allows me to message them and I found I could start servers on the games I managed to download. They told me I appeared online on their screens despite me being in offline mode.
I'm still able to access my account on my old laptop and other PCs so the problem is only limited to my new laptop.

My laptop is a ASUS G751JT-T7019H
Specs
processor intel(R) core(TM) i7-4710HQ CPU @ 2.50GHz
ram 16GB
GPU GeForceGTX970M
system 64bit operating system x64-based processor
operating system windows 8.1

Thanks in advance to anyone who replies

You need to put a space before -tcp.
