Renaming Steam Folder
So I'm not trying to rename the steam folder but rather the folder that contains the steam folder. The reason is because the folder which my steam folder is in has an ' in it and it's causing an issue with an addon within FSX. My question is will renaming this folder screw with anything in steam or should I be ok?

Ehm...

Are you trying to edit Program Files (x86)? That contains the Steam folder (at least on 64-bit systems).

Renaming folders should not be a thing you have to do, and will not end well if you do rename it.

Could you explain HOW the Steam folder got an apostrophe in it?
URLs are exact. So for example "C:\John's Picures" and "C:\Johns Pictures" are two different folders. If you rename any folder in the hierarchy, all shortcuts to files below it will break.

The location of my steam folder is on my second harddrive. The location is G:\Caleb's Things\Steam. The folder I am looking to rename is obviously "Caleb's Folder".

You would have to uninstall Steam, rename the folder, then reinstall Steam to the newly named folder.

Really? I wouldn't just be able to rename it?
No. Steam needs to know exactly where its files are. There is no difference between removing an apostrophe and renaming the folder 'RTKGHERIUGEIUHGI". All shortcuts and programs that try to look for files that were in that folder (or any folder below it) will no longer be able to find them.
Can anyone help me ?? For some reason Im installing a new game and I have 2 drives
C = this computer
D = Hardrive
D is named D:\team fortress for some reason even tho im not installing team fortress or have it

You can rename the drive if you so choose.

To rename a steam library folder (ie not the installation directory):

1. Close Steam
2. Rename the folder
3 Open Steam and look at the library folders list - you'll notice the old name missing
4. Add new library but choose the renamed folder
5. Games get added back in

I found this thread via Google; I wanted to add the folder where I'd saved my old games after moving to a new PC.

It seems these days Steam creates a new folder SteamLibrary on your drive where you want to save your games, and doesn't allow you to edit the name of this folder.

It's actually possible to use your own folder, but instead of choosing a drive letter, select the last option: "Let me choose a location", then select the folder you want to create the library in.

I also found this thread via Google, and I've found another workaround on Stackoverflow.

  1. Close the Steam app. Wait for it is to close completely.
  2. Move or rename the path of your Steam library folder (Containing "steamapps", "libraryfolder.vdf" and "Steam.dll") to its new location.
  3. Open libraryfolders.vdf with Notepad from the folder C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\SteamApps\ (or your standard Steam install folder).
  4. The file contains all metadata of your Steam libraries from all of your drives with the labels "0", "1" and so on. Edit the corresponding path. Make sure to use "\\" instead of "\". Do not modify anything else! Save the file and close it.
  5. Start Steam app.

Example:

My file looked something like this:
"0" { "path" "C:\\Program Files (x86)\\Steam" ... } "1" { "path" "D:\\Program Files\\Games\\Steam" ... }

I moved all my data from D:\Program Files\Games\Steam to D:\Steam, and now it should look like this:

"0" { "path" "C:\\Program Files (x86)\\Steam" ... } "1" { "path" "D:\\Steam" ... }

Disclaimer: Although I'm fairly sure this method is foolproof, I take no responsibility for any possible data loss.

I'm thinking that Vox Nocentis might be the genius here.
I have yet to test this, but it looks very promising.
My reason is that I have multiple 12TB drives 'mounted' under
c:\steam games\ of which I would like to change to c:\games\
