what cpu do and gpu/apu/igp does it have?
As too old of a Driver can hold the system back from running certain things/features correctly.
Please refer to the Driver site that suites your hardware:
Intel: http://www.intel.com/p/en_US/support/detect
NVIDIA: http://www.geforce.com/drivers
AMD: http://support.amd.com/en-us/download
If you un-sure what exactly you have, run the Auto-Detect software feature on the Driver site, or install CPUZ or GPUZ to better identify your hardware so you can ensure you download the correct drivers when downloading them manually.
Also ensure these are all up to date.
- Windows Updates
- DirectX (Redist June 2010 package)
- Visual C++
- dot-NET Framework 4.5xx
While you can change what resolution Big Picture Mode (by going to the GEAR icon in BPM) displays at, that won't do anything outside of Steam. For each game, those must each be configured to run best for your system specs.
