I agree, I am SICK of "steamwebhelper.exe" running in the background. It launches itself into 2-3 or even 4 different processes that rob the resources on the computer. I know some people say that you have to re-install a different version of steam and wipe out the current one you have, but I do not want to have to re-install all of my games.

Steam needs to have a patch to remove this feature. I understand that it is a dumb process to sit there and "assist" you with every link you click via ur steam chat, to tell you "that this website may not be safe and you accept the risks" but seriously, they could tether it in with the chat window itself. BUT everyone this day in age requires someone else to do the thinking for them.

I say they need to have an easy to locate setting or to release a patch to get rid of the stupid thing.

It's a part of steam, you can't get rid of them and if you use blocking apps all you'll do is stop steam from running correctly.

i've used security software to terminate it, but it REPEATEDLY launches itself and causes a system hang, because it relaunches so quick. I've even went into the registry and tampered with the files to try and shut it down, no luck. Steam enters "repair mode" and fixes it, relaunches it, and it's back to the same run of the mill BS. Honestly it's a stupid feature.

As i said it's part of steam and attempts to remove to block steamwebhelper will just cause issues.

steamwebhelper.exe it's part of steam client
webhelper.exe it's adware...

Yes, each "Tab" of the client is a separate process.

One for the Store, one for the Community, One for what ever other section you have open.

The more you use it, the bigger it gets. Every file, picture, video, etc. that you view on the Steam Community gets loaded and stored there.

Start Steam in minimal mode and never ever visit anything HTML-related in Steam. AFAIK that might prevent the webhelper process from starting.

I mean everything that is not the library. That is, opening the store page of the game is HTML already, with or without the video.

If you want to avoid the web helper processes growing in size, then you need to avoid doing anything that requires memory.

sometimes there is 3 & sometimes there are 2 running, from what depends on the number of them running?

The "tab" system. Whether or not you've opened up the Community, Store, etc.

You can test to see which ones are which. It has to do with Steam upgrading their client to be based off the the Chrome web browser. I believe Chrome uses a separate processor for each "Tab".
