All your steam games count how many hours you have played. It's not stopping you from playing and its certainly not restricting you.

yea but i feel restricted since im not much of a gamer and i dont want to play much. Like even a few hours is quite a bit for me.

Switch Steam to "Offline Mode" and it shouldn't track hours if it bothers you that your hours are being tracked.

Hours mean nothing, so just ignore them.

Well, you could always try disabling the steam overlay if you don't wish to see your hours everyime you press "Shift + Tab" or what ever your shortcut is.

Other than that, there isn't a way to disable it.

Why let this one die....an answer would be good. Hrs are props for gamers but frowned upon by non gamers....Would be nice to shut them off at least for my steam machine....so its not so obvious what a gamer nerd I am on the television

It absolutely does.

Offline mode only means you can start games without the internet, if Steam can get online it will still update your stats without your permissions or choice which is the way of Valve. Take liberties with our systems, force their customer base to capitulate under threat of blocking their accounts if they don't.

So, sadly, the only way to stop Steam tracking game-play is to boycott their games by playing only Indie game developers games who don't support Steam. Steam absolutely do not care about our privacy, only about their games, business and profits, so unless some law gets changed it's play and be tracked or don't play.

Sad world.
