Steam unwilling to help
Did you know that steam will not delete free to play game accounts off of your personal account? Apparently it's stuck there forever. Anyone had success actually deleting game accounts? I've heard of people resorting to deleting all of their games in hopes that steam will see it as inactive and remove their entire account. I've also heard using your account for criminal activity can also do the trick. Anyone had success elsewhere? Are those my two options?

Family share. Read about it.
You play the games with another account.

But you will lose access to your main account, because you dont have the password.
Only proof of purchase can bring it back.
It will take a long time to get it back.
So you are saved from your addiction, the hard way.

First check if your games work with family share. And make SURE you have valid proof of purchase!

But then I'm still accessing the same games but from another account.
But not dota 2 as you know it

you can hide them, remove them or not play....if you delete them you can redownload them, i'm not sure what feasible outcome you want at this point.
you could lock your pc in a large box and give someone else the key or limit your intenet access in some way but these things are not something support or anyone else here can help you with really, it's something you need to deal with in your personal life.
I didn't know it was that unreasonable. Most companies can delete accounts. It's a pretty basic thing.

Oh of course. the new account would be starting from scratch. Worth looking into thank you.
Keep proof of purchase, dont forget that point.
Or you will get in trouble later.
Also stay aware that you cant buy games for your main account meanwhile.

Honestly I'd be willing to give up my other games if it was the only solution so I'm not too worried about it.
A friend of mine once said that she contacted Support and they were able to "suspend" her account or something. I'm not sure if it was temporary or she had to make a new account, but it might be something to look into.

Yes forgive me for the poor choice of analogy. I'm looking for a better solution.
Steam is a storefront, not a self help service. They are not anyone's parent or guardian. They deal in sales and are not responsible for a person's own personal issues. Valve's refusal to comply with your deletion request is not the issue here. Your problem is not one of unhelpful technology or company policy, but rather one of self control and psychological restraint. I would therefore suggest you seek help in a more appropriate venue, such as from a counselor or psychologist.

Alright calm down friend. Plenty of people game too much. I'm just shocked that one's profile can't be deleted.
in limited circumstances, and ineffable is just pointing out that you are the one whos invented an almost cyclical prorblem. its like lotto "be a smart player know your limit" and there are consequenceses for ignoring your budget weather its time money or some other valued concept like love ect. if you can stop playing it you should still have the reminder that you spent excamp( 3 years playing) as im sure it was yet another escape from somthing harder and more relivant to your life... so even if this where possible it would only help you forget that youve been taking time from yourself to play here instead of excersizing, paying bills, taxes, dating, taking closer interest in childerns lives, cleaning, volenteering, even learning a new language. you dont need professional help unless truly you can't stop. if its as bad as heroin then seek help nothing to be ashamed of, this isnt 1908. gaming is a recognized problem. unlike being unable to complete a drug test in a 120 sec window with a man looking at you. shy bladder is not recognized as a legit problem, so be happy your not me. your lucky your problems are so easy leo

Top right, your account name, account details, remove buttons

I'm actually trying to keep myself from being able to play it. Trying to stop an addiction here. Deleting it on my end doesn't do much good if it can be re-downloaded in like 10 minutes.
Just. Stop. Playing. Games.
Find another hobby if it's that bad.
