Cannot connect to Steam servers
I've tried everything! Disabled my firewall, attempted to get a static ip, uninstalled anti virus software, Port forwarding, etc. I've reset router, and connected it directly to modem. Nothing works! I've been Locked out of steam for a week. And this randomly just started happening. Help please!

Did you try what I posted above?
I am attempting to install optional windows updte now, its 723mb size file and its still showing 4% and green installing bars. I have a beast of a PC with nearly the most advanced technology on the market. SOmehow I still feel so small

How to update version? Use the windows update?
I have windows 8.1 pro. And when I press windows key and R, it does nothing.
I see.

Can you make a launch parameter to your launcher?

Right mouse click the Steam shortcut on your desktop -> Properties -> Target
Change
"C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\Steam.exe"
to
"C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\Steam.exe" -tcp

Try to run through the shortcut; forcing Steam to use the TCP port protocol instead of the UDP.

If that won't work; re-validate your Steam -client installation unless you've done that already.
You can do that by navigating to
C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam
and by removing everything except
  • Steam.exe
  • SteamApps
  • userdata
  • ssfn(numbersequence)
and then launching the client through the shortcut.

I am seeing more threads about this so maybe it is a network issue...

Try changing download regions to test this...

Change the region for downloads
log out and exit the client all the way..make sure it stops
log back in and confirm the change stayed to the region you changed it to
try again to download or update

do this a few times to different regions but do it EXACTLY like this every time please.
changed the region installation, now I am being blocked by the French!!!!WTFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFF

Well, I'll have to say for Windows 7 users it's most likely the pre-6.1.6701 version of Windows; and Windows 8 users seem to suffer from UDP -port related issues.

Although, I know people who can run Steam on 6.1.6700; so it's not completely excluded and there's still something I'm overlooking.

Can you try these as well ?

I won't guarantee they'll work for you, I'm still just a regular user and we're all on different hard- and software, but it's always good to troubleshoot some possible methods out of the way. :)
