STEAM uses 25% of my CPU
Hi guys,

I have a fairly good rig (I5 3.5ghz, GTX 770, 8goram) and I run every games pretty well. The issue is that I have to turn off steam because for some reason it uses 25% of the CPU when it's on and causes a huge drop in performences. Obviously it's not an issue when I play non steam games but games like CS, or TF2 require steam to be on at all times and I'am getting bad frames in thoses games (even if they're old).

What is steam doing in the background ? Why does it use the CPU ? I really can't figure it out and it's very annoying.

Thanks.

You shouldn't be getting low fps just from 25% of your cpu being utilized...

Steam shouldn't utilize a full core anyway, nonetheless permanently.

That's true, unless it's downloading something or doing some updates in the backround

You could also try turning off the in-game overlay by going into the settings > in game and turning off the enable steam community in-game option.

Thanks, trying that now.

I have another problem, when running cs:go my harddrive temperature reaches almost 61C degrees, is it normal ?

Probably, cs go uses an ancient engine.

btw I have two steamwebhelper.exe running is that normal ?

A harddrive should never get this hot, under no circumstances. This indicates your PC has a cooling/airflow problem.
Yes, multiple instances of steamwebhelper.exe are normal.

Btw I have done what some of you suggested and rebooted, so far steam.exe is using 0% of the CPU and games are running smoothly.
