screenshots transfer from old computer to new one
I just built a desktop computer and have my userdata from my laptop backed up onto an external hdd, how do i properly merge the two folders so that they show up in the screenshot uploader? i copied the userdata and i didnt want to replace the new screenshots and remotecache vdf files so i chose to keep the new ones. The screenshots and thumbnails from both are in the folders but the laptop's ones will not show up in steam.

Did you reboot the Steam client in between?

You may have to resort to the older screenshots.vdf though; at least if you want the non-Steam screenshots to show up as they're automatically generated codes at the bottom of the file.

yeah i rebooted, by non-steam you mean the old ones? and I must have the new ones show up for sure, I can still upload the old ones from my laptop, its just more convenient for them to all be in one place

I mean those without an actual APP-ID you can use the Steam overlay for, like "Minecraft"

New screenshots.vdf would just assign a new code for those and it would show up as an incompatibility considering the folders are named differently than the code assigned to the game in the new screenshots.vdf -file.

The ones with APP-IDs should be visible in your screenshots.vdf without further tweaking; and just planting the folders in your
C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\userdata\<user-ID>\760\remote\
should theoretically be enough

(Your user-ID is 94275365)

But if i use the old screenshots one will it add the new stuff onto it and work to have both collection of screenshots showing up?

Personally, I'd probably have done the shift before adding new content to the .vdf -file.

You can try; if all else fails, you might have to copypaste some of its content from the old to the new and re-apply the #.

As in
"Screenshots" { "<APP-ID>" { "adjustthisnumber" {

So it's still in a chronological order.

nvrmnd, i fixed it by copying and pasting all the info from the old vdf's to the end of the new ones :)

It sorted out the chronological order by itself?

That's neat, glad to hear it works :D:

Those should be found at the very bottom of the screenshots.vdf with the bigger (randomly generated) number sequences. The screenshot strings themselves are similar to the former; but this is found at the bottom:

} "shortcutnames" { "randomly generated non-Steam APP-ID" "APP ALIAS"

Ah, I recall some of my earlier Crysis 3 (also Origin) screenshots not having the name visible at all; maybe it's related to that?

Although; the latter screenshots had the alias.
i.e. this one does not: http://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=215789072

EDIT:
Alternatively, add the non-Steam game again; rename it, take a screenshot (so it creates an entry) and then change the said previous non-Steam screenshots APP-IDs to the new one, save the .vdf and reboot Steam. (Of course this means also changing the screenshots & thumbnails folders to the new folder.)

Basically
  1. Add a non-Steam game
  2. Rename the app to what you want the screenshots to display as
  3. Launch the game and take a screenshot
A new non-Steam app-ID folder was created under
      C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\userdata\<user-ID>\760\remote
    • You can find it easily by hitting 'View on Disk' on the Screenshots Manager
  4. Transfer all the previous screenshots (for that name.) in there. (both screenshots / thumbnails -folders)
  5. Re-adjust the screenshots.vdf to the new folder's APP-ID
      "filename" "<APP-ID>/screenshots/2015-02-02_00001.jpg"
      "thumbnail" "APP-ID/screenshots/thumbnails/2015-02-02_00001.jpg"

Yup, it's also found in the Store -address.
i.e. The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim's -> store.steampowered. com/app/72850/

Oh! So just the lack of entry in the Manager :D: Well, glad to hear it works, that's the most important part anyway.
