.sav file icon

A while ago, I had the default unknown file type icon for sav files, even if HL2 was installed. Now, for some reason, hl2.exe icon is associated to .sav, which kinda annoys me, as many games use .sav and the icon is out of place. Also, I wanted to add a custom icon, but even if I add the DefaultIcon key under .sav is HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT and restarted my PC, it seems that the Valve.Source value in .sav is overriding the DefaultIcon key. Can I safely remove Valve.Source to change the icon. If not, is there a way to override the icon at all?

All Source games seems to do that weird behavior. I really don't know how to undo that but even if you undone the file association, GMod/HL2/TF2 would associate it again each time you open the game.
I think windows 11 will have a new really good setting of remove or add file associations to each extension.

Dont add own .sav associations that's all there is to that, if you do then all will look like it belong to something specific. to my knowledge no game devs dare to clam it because all things with .sav will be seen as That Brand problem.
