How do I gift a copy of game to my friend?

I already owned Left 4 Dead and Left 4 Dead 2 and just bought the Valve Package, which also included the Left 4 Dead bundles. Before I purchased the Valve Package, Steam said I am able to gift the games that I already owned that was included in the bundle. How do I gift the pre-owned game to my friends? Please help. Thanks!

You don't have have either L4D or L4D2 in your inventory.

You may have been mistaken the message, it direct you to the Extra Copies aticle to determine the items you already own can be shared with friends or not.

I already owned L4D and L4D2 previously and then purchased "Valve Complete Pack"

1. "Users who own "Left 4 Dead" and then go on to purchase "Left 4 Dead + Left 4 Dead 2 Bundle" will receive an extra copy of "Left 4 Dead"."
-> I'm guessing this means that extra copy only applies if I buy L4D Bundle when I already own L4D.

2. "Extra copies may apply as a part of some limited time promotions. In that case, information on what will be included with your purchase will be listed on the storefront's transaction page."
->Before I made "Valve Complete Pack" purchase I think I got some message about extra copy but not exactly sure what it was.
