Will adding DLL files to Half-Life's Steam folder get you VAC banned?
There's this singleplayer mod called Focalpoint for HL1. By installing it I have to add a file called wondll.DLL to Steam's Half-Life folder, add the mod's folder too, and restart Steam. Now; I heard that mods like Cry of Fear and PARANOIA also contained Opengl32.DLL files, and there's a chance if you'll try to play mulitiplayer on them they'll get you VAC banned, is that the same case with Focalpoint? Should I remove it?

If you play online with it still installed you could get vac banned yes, for sure just like Cry of Fear and PARANOIA.

Thank you for your reply! I'd never expected a moderator to respond to my thread, so as long I'm not modifying or replace any already-existing DLL files, only adding a new one which doesn't replace a thing and is unrelated to the original product (i.e core files that could be modified) then I'm safe to keep it?
No you are not safe to keep it.

Downloading mods or adding additional files you need to make sure you are safe. Those two known mods can trigger vac bans, adding extra dll files can trigger vac bans. If you are not 100% sure dont install and play the mods and if you do then make sure you are not connecting to any vac enabled servers after you played the mod.

Alrighty, I'll install the mod from Moddb, without the extra DLL file. But if I'll completely fresh re-install Half-Life and wipe clean wondll.dll, would it be safe for me to play on goldsrc mulitiplayer games again?
I cant say yes for sure as i dont know what files you are going to download.

Just so you know there are a few mods that will trigger a vac ban if you forget to remove certain files before playing online.

Only the mod's main folder which contains the usual; maps, sounds, and all that. And thank you.
