is anyone else getting this error when trying to make a purchase on steam ?

every payment method, CC paypal etc. all do the same

"There seems to have been an error initializing or updating your transaction. Please wait a minute and try again or contact support for assistance."

I have even tried using a Browser, same error . * cleared Cache cookies etc.

I already put in a support ticket. But who knows how long that will take.

Has anyone had this , and fixed it?

UPDATE~~ Fixed I was able to work around the error.

If anyone else gets this error what i did was revert back to NON beta steam, than I switched back to BETA. This cleared out my cart. And i can now purchase once again.

Having the same problem right now with Grim Fandango.

EDIT: Big Picture mode allowed me to buy it as long as I did the whole transaction from it. Initially, I had tried using BPM to just complete the purchase from my Cart. That didn't work. So, I went back to normal mode, cleared out my Cart, went back to BPM, searched for the game there, added it to my Cart there, and bought it there. That worked.

Inconceivable that Steam would allow something to continue that prevents people from buying things.
Dude, if you were from my town i would've taken you out and buy you drinks that you cant even swim over. Thank you , thank you, thank you.

I went right down the street from my place and got a steam card. Used it successfully, and I now have the money on my wallet.

Can't buy ♥♥♥♥, of course.

And the items go off sale tomorrow, and Valve support is worse than asking a brick for help with your math homework. It doesn't work.

Screw this error initializing or updating transaction crap, I've been buying games from Steam for years. I've never done anything to even warrant considering a lockout from the store.

Also, DaveLessnau, if there is a god, it's you. That worked.

BPM only works if the game supports it though as Elminage Gothic won't show up. So still back to waiting for a full fix.

I just bought the desired games through IE 8.0 with my steam wallet money. Looks like it is fixed now.

Tried different "fixes", nothing works. GG Steam

Fixed itself today... It's obviously due to some kind of bug on Steam servers.

What worked for me (while I had the error):

1. empty the cart (if there's something in it)
2. quit Steam
3. open Steam
4. enter the Big Picture Mode
5. find a game you wish to buy
6. make a purchase (while in BPM)

Steam support won't help you. They never answered me.

I had a same problem when I moved countries.

THIS IS A VALID FIX:

If you want to add money to your steam walled from the new card that is issued in another country, you first need to make a transaction - purchase a game through the steam store.
I bought one that cost $0.25.
After doing that I was able to make a purchase for my steam wallet!

FOUND A FIX, SHOULD WORK

So, I've been dealing with this for a few hours now and I found out how to get around it. I got to the cart, and instead of purchasing for myself, I purchased as a gift. It gives you an option to keep the gift later, and in doing so, you are able to deliver or trade later. Once you do that, you purchase it (Hopefully it works), go to Games in the upper left corner, then Manage Gifts and Guest Passes, and then click on the game, and on the right side of the screen, click "Add to my library" or something like that, and it gives the game to you. Problem solved hopefully
