Friend request spam
What's up with all the random friend requests I've been getting from people I don't even know the past few weeks? Scammers?

Phishing bots, report them and block them.

How do I know if it's a bot, and not just a really friendly stranger? I don't want to get some poor sap banned just because he wants friends...

You got like two options, ignore the invite or accept it. If you accept it and it's just someone who sends you a link immediately and they usually don't reply back to anything, when you try to talk to them.

You should be able to recognize between a bot and a normal friend/human/people.

Well, most of these folks don't even send me any links or anything... if they're spambots, they're doing a REALLY bad job of it...

I quess some of the bots are bugged/malfunctioning, but don't let your guard down.

I've had this problem ever since a scammer asked me to "trade" CS:GO weapons but actually tried to link me to a virus (about a month ago), I've done everything I've can including reporting, blocking, changing my profile name/avatar and profile URL, yet all of these bot accounts (usually either with private profiles or just own 1 game, no recent activity and a few friends, and always no friends in common) keep spamming friend requests all the time. I usually get 1-2 friend requests from these bot accounts almost every day.

Hi, just searched for this topic because I'm getting same thing

I keep getting spammed friend request from people with 1 game, pretty sure they're Bots because I accepted one to see what he would say, and I instantly got messaged about 3 messages all at once by the bot

I just block them whenevere I get them now, I've set my profile to private expect for friends and I'm still getting these spam accounts adding me

I've signed up to a few sites, most recent one was called "Tr3mor Games" .. Don't know if this could maybe be the problem? I looked it up and the site seemed Legit according to others

Some advice on how to make this go away would be kindly appreciated

Makes me edgy about doing any future trades, tbh I just assumed I wouldn't be able to get a virus from trading on Steam :-\

I have too many games to take these kind of risks >.< Valve

I seem to get a couple a day as well, really annoying when you just wanna come home from work and relax

Yeah i get them too. But i saw that the more you write on steam forum then more spam you get >.< They all have private account and immediately send some link if you accept them as a friend.

So how could one go about making it stop?

I mean, I take it they have the link to my profile now, so unless I can change my profile link which I'm guessing I can't, am I screwed?

I'll keep blocking and reporting but can't be around all the time to block instantly
