Best Free Game Recording Software
So I have been looking into game recording software and I can't find any good ones. Fraps and DXtory are out of the question for me because they take up WAAAAAAAAYYYY too much space! I know that you can compress them, but it doesn't matter; my computer can't handle those file sizes. I have tried MSI Afterburner, and it is OK, but my framerate drops too much (80-22) and it does not have the best quality I have tried OBS, which I LOVE, except it stopped working for me.

Not really stopped working, but sometimes I have a black screen. Then, when I get it to work, although I have about 40-50 fps when recording, when I watch the video it LAGS LIKE CRAZY!!

Does anyone have an alternative that has descent quality, the fps does not dip a alot, and the file sizes are descently small (4 gb for 15 minutes max preferred) BEFORE compression? Thanks for your help!! (:

Try reinstalling / resetting settings for both OBS and MSI afterburner. I find these two the best screen recorders ever made lol
(Sadly, some features of MSI Afterburner cause BSODs on my laptop, it has almost zero FPS loss for me but I can't use it because of BSODs)

For a replacement for MSI Afterburner, I'd use Sapphire TRIXX.

I will do this and tell you if it works. Thanks Oliosis for your suggestion too!

So that made it a little bit better. It is also partially due to framerate drop; for some reason, OBS is dropping down to 20-30 fps from 80 rather then only going down to 40. However, the video lags a bit less. I have another question; sometimes, it records audio only when I am talking or when the game makes noise; when there is no noise, it sort of mutes. Do you know how to fix that?

What kind of video card do you have? NVIDIA has a free one that's pretty good.

Well, if he has a Nvidia card that's the GTX 600 series or up, that should be viable.

I wouldn't say that MSI Afterburner is the best. I've had a few issues with it. Such as not recording audio in Audiosurf 2.

Yeah, if you have at least a 600 series Nvidia card, then Shadowplay is by far your best bet.

I don't have one yet. This is a fairly new computer I've built and I am buying an Nvidia GTX 750 as soon as I can. I would go for a better GPU, but my case is too small and can't handle the dino-sizes of the 'best' Nvidia Graphics Cards. Before you scream at me for not buying a graphics card first, I built it at a place where the parts were already supplied so I couldn't choose the parts. But I'm putting these upgrades into it;

From Intel Core i3 to = Intel Core i5 4690k

From MSI Gaming Motherboard to = MSI Z97-G55 SLI

From 350 Wattt PSU to = 450 Watt PSU

Integrated Intel Graphics to = Nvidia GTX 750

Ok so now I'm not dipping below 90 in Minecraft for some random reason, I'm not sure why. The only problem is that even though MC has an average 70 fps when recording, the video is still INSANELY LAGGY!!! I DON"T GET IT!! Also, the quality isn't that great, but it might be because it is not showing it in 1080p. Althought I like OBS, I am not really happy with it; I was expecting more then I got I suppose. I know that almost every decent screen recorder comes with a price, but does anyone know of any other screen recorders with good quality and SMALL file sizes?
KenTheBarbie 17/set./2014 às 16:43
I know Fraps has FANTASTIC quality, but the file sizes are just too big. If anyone knows how to magically make the RAW footage (of fraps) only about 5-6 gb for 15 minutes of recording BEFORE compression, that would be awesome!

There's camstudio, but you won't get much that will make it take less HD space. It has to go someplace while recording it. Here's what you should do if you're really set on recording and your main HDD can't store enough. Buy an external drive, they're cheap, like 50 bucks for a terrabyte? Maybe even less by now, and they'll store every bit of recording data you need.
