In-home streaming over college wifi.
I'm trying to get in-home streaming to work over my college wifi (I have both the desktop and laptop here), but they don't recognize each other as being online. The desktop is running windows 7, the laptop running OSX Mavericks. It has previously worked with the two, just never on this network. What do?

Please refer to the following page(s):

If you're streaming from a OS X host, then that is the issue you're experiencing. The in-home streaming that Steam has recently supported does not support OS X host at this time.

I'm actually streaming from the PC, so that's not the issue.

Please refer to the troubleshooting steps in the link(s) I have posted. Your issue may be that your college does not have the specific ports opened, or there is some sort of firewall on their network that you are using that does not permit the use of those ports.

If the ports are unopened, is there any way I can get the streaming service to work?
Nevermind that, as it would appear that the port IS open.

How are you determining that the port is open? If you're on your college's router in the first place, you shouldn't be able to access the gateway.

It's possible firewall is getting in the way as well.
I used a port-checking site, which read back that it could see the host at port 27036. These two computers have previously worked for home streaming before, when not on the college's wifi.

Ah, I forgot about TCP port scanning with I believe it's called Nmap.

Honestly, from the looks of it, it sounds like their is some sort of firewall that is being the middleman. The firewall that is on your college's network could only allow certain traffic or what not.
Any way of getting around that?
And could the fact that I'm in the beta update for steam on both computers be causing the issue? I know they need to have the same version of steam, I'm not sure whether windows and mac betas are released at the same time.

Contacting your IT department would be the only solution that I can give you.

Possibly. You could always try removing yourself on both computers from the beta.

Not a problem. I had edited my recent post to your other reply as well.
