SSE2 bug? Steam Fatal Error failed to load steamui.dll

Steam's printed system requirements say over 1ghz and my Athlon XP is more than sufficient. Can you please tell me if Steam now officially requires CPU's with the SSE2 instruction set, thus making the new minimum a Pentium 4?

Not to derail the topic, but why are you using a CPU that doesn't support 14-year old technology? Eventually you'll have to upgrade.

I do have a separate upgraded PC and would like to use this legacy one for less demanding games

Same here, I got AMD Duron 1GHz, 1 core, from 2000-2001, without SSE2 and Steam doesn´t work.
