How do I use my Amazon gift-card balance to pay for Steam games?
For Christmas, I received 150$ in Amazon gift cards and the
money is currently on my account. I want to purchase the
recently-released eden* from Steam while it is on sale, and
have the money in my Amazon gift-card balance.
How can I use the money on my Amazon account in order
to pay for the game?

If it applies, I have a PayPal account (with no money on it,
otherwise I would have used it) and a pre-paid American
Express (debit?) card linked to both my Steam and PayPal
accounts.

Thank you for your help in letting me purchase eden* with the
money that I have.

You cannot that I know of. You could probably find the same or better sales on Amazon anyway.

Well, Amazon store credits don't pay anywhere else. Thus, you'll have to check whether Amazon has the game as well (also check whether they are actually selling the Steam version, if they have it and you care about that), or whether they sell Steam gift cards.

eden* is available through Steam, however.
How would I be able to purchase the Steam version on Amazon?

Steam games purchased elsewhere come as a "code" or "key" that you enter into Steam to activate the game on your account. It's just a bunch of letters and numbers, like "12345-ABCDF-6789Z".

The difference between the Steam store and other stores is that the Steam store always give you a Steam game, whereas other stores might not.
However, I merely mentioned this for completeless' sake. I don't think Amazon actually carries those little Indie games, so the question whether it's a Steam version or not doesn't apply.

Having quickly browsed through Amazon, I don't see eden* there.

You could, (like Kargor probably meant with the 'Steam gift card'), buy a Steam Wallet Card. This won't likely get shipped during the time eden* is on sale unfortunately, but it seems like the only good way around to getting the game with the Amazon credit.

Yeah, sorry. I've never used these things, so I don't really know what they are called :-) I was assuming their main purpose is to gift them to someone so you don't have to think about what game to get for them -- let the recipient of the gift do all the work. Plus, if he gets a game he doesn't like, he can't blame you. Bestest gift ever.

The disadvantage of these cards is that they only come in preset amounts, so you'll end up having some Steam credit as well. Which isn't a bad thing if you're planning to get more games, but games is pretty much everything that Steam has to offer. Amazon credit can get you a whole lot of other stuff too.

I tried to find a Steam Gift Card on Amazon, they don't sell that.

It is impossible. Currrently Amazon does not allow you to purchase a gift card using a gift card. So you couldn't buy a steam or gamestop gift card.
