If you clicked the link as you say, you are in danger.

Not smart at all.

If you didn't run the file, you're OK. If you want to be sure, change your password and do a virus scan.

Ensure you run Anti-Malware and secure Steam Account and Email Accounts. Report User.

I suppose this comes off as a bad thing to remark as in your current state of affairs it serves no purpose of telling, but you could've used http://wheredoesthislinkgo.com

Anyway, the .srt file is a RAT (Remote Access Tool.)

I'd advice to run an antivirus & an antimalware scan on your computer, preferrably in safe-mode.
For an antimalware -scanner, I'll personally recommend Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware you can get at https://www.malwarebytes.org/mwb-download/

If you didn't run the file, you most likely do not have a problem. I haven't seen any Steam malware use unpatched Windows vulnerabilities yet (though I don't imagine they're too far off).

I'm personally not saying aye or nay on this. It's hard to imagine everyone running the .scr file post-download and yet still wonder how they lost their items. On the other hand, I guess I shouldn't be surprised seeing how many people launched the SteamGuard.executable and the like in the past.

At the same time, the pinned thread's video has a guy who analyzes the file without running it, so you'd think the file does indeed require a manual run before it can actually operate and its simple existence shouldn't be enough.

I do still end up wishing Valve locked trading & -offers with a separate piece of hardware, like a cellphone and some Steam Authenticator -like application with a key that changes every 10-20 seconds. That way even if your computer was infected with a RAT, they wouldn't gain access to something that's not stored on your PC to begin with.

Unfortunately such utopic thoughts fall short for the sake of their inconvenience.

Two-factor authentication with separate hardware is actually an interesting idea, though I think the current system of needing to confirm via email (if you haven't turned it off) would probably work. That is, until Steam malware starts pulling out cookies from browsers and data from email clients to gain access to email accounts.

BTW, are CAPTCHAs still required in trading? I haven't traded lately, so I have no idea.

They're not; they've switched it to email.

You can actually turn off the email authorization via http://steamcommunity.com/my/edit/settings/
I like how Valve has also input the exclusion of obligation given it's disabled.

You will get an error from the program you use to open jpgs that it isn't a jpg file. Since you won't be able to open it, there's no danger.

But just delete it before you or windows do something stupid. If it runs, your steam inventory will be emptied.
