Stolen Gift Cards
Hey, so I just lost my steam wallet code to a complete jerk. Is there any way to get it back at all?

It'll be long gone at this point. Was it stolen via steam or what?

How did you lose it? By giving him the code?
DadShoes Jan 31, 2015 @ 5:17pm
No, I had it in my room and I guess a friend took it or something. I just got back a few hours ago.

Steam really can't do anything about that, if the friend shouldn't have been in your room, the police would be who you'd go to. Either that, or having some choice words with that friend....

Edit: Or make sure that you didn't lose it of course.

Is there any way they can reverse it or at least cancel it? I honestly couldn't care about the money since it was a gift but I'd rather him/her not have it.

If you have the code, well, you could enter it on your account to redeem it.

(If it hasn't been redeemed of course)

Already redeemed, that's why I'm angry.

Where'd you buy it?

No idea, it was a gift.

Do you have the physical card (i.e. did they just get the code off the card)?

If you have the physical card, you can try putting in a ticket for Steam Support. Attach a photograph of the card.

Yea, I do.

Hmm. Too bad. If you knew where it was purchased, you could tell your "friend" that you will dispute the charges with the store you purchased it from. Then the store will revoke the purchase, and Steam may revoke the Steam Wallet Code as a fraudulent purchase, and any account that used that Code will be suspended for breaking the SSA.

You don't actually have to do it, but can use it as leverage to get your "friend" to pay you back. Not even 100% sure it would work, but accounts are suspended all the time for fraudulent purchases and wallet cards, so it's feasable.

Probably the best thing to do then is contact support with a photo of the card attached to the ticket. It's possible someone could have guessed the code (using some sort of generator). The most likely scenario is whoever used the code will have their account restricted, and you may be able to redeem the code.

If the code from the card is claimed you are most likely SOL. There's no real way to prove you in fact had this card stolen, or you added funds into an account and just want free money now. I would probably confront friends and take their knee caps as return payment.

The physical card was in my room. Honestly, with any luck, the account that it was redeemed on will be banned.
