It (if I recall) warns you on the checkout that you already own it, and won't get an extra copy.

Yeah, that's because Steam doesn't care what you think. It has never done that, and it never will (most likely -- it's a core mechanic of these packages that they can't be split up).
It usually states that if you own one of those games, you won't get an extra copy of it.
Like I had GTA: 4 before buying GTA: Complete pack and I didn't get the extra copy.
