Ghastly Gibus Confusion?

I recently (a while ago) got the Ghastly Gibus Grab achievement and got my Ghastly Gibus. However, being a kinda newbie, I didn't want to wear it in fear of being dominated and losing it.
If I'm wearing the Gibus, and I get dominated, the player that dominated me (lol ;)) will get one, right? But will I or won't I lose mine, so that its no longer in my backpack

I had to delete mine.

You don't lose your hat, they only get the achievement and a new hat of their own.
