How to make Steam stop Scheduling Updates
I have it in my settings to not have scheduling on but Steam does it anyway.
Even the tiniest little update will get scheduled for sometimes hours later and I want to know if there's a way to stop it and just set it to just download updates automatically.

I'll wake up to find a listed of updates Steam was kind enough to schedule instead of just downloading them while I wasn't doing anything >_>

I see you never got a response on this, but I have the same question/problem. Did you ever find anything out on this?

Unfortunately I've already got those settings in place.

Actually what I'm seeing right now is one game update that is scheduling itself for a few minutes into the future, time comes, it bumps out a few more minutes - never installs. Also nothing appears to happen if I click download now. The text changes from the scheduled update time to "Update Required", but nothing happens. Weird. I'll do some testing (restart steam, verify data, etc.)

EDIT: ****SOLVED****

Ok my problem was ridiculously simple. Found that the game's exe was still running, though there was no sign of it anywhere and it's been days since I last loaded it lol. Killed the process, game update downloads and installs fine.

Sorry for the dumb questions ;)

and below that you can allow updating whilst in game , but if you do allow this set your multiplayer games to "NOT" Allow downloads during play so you don't loose all your bandwidth

Sorry I already did that and it's still scheduling them. It's normally not for the game I'm playing or have played reacently.

It's not that dumb, anyway my problem happens if the game's exe is running or not :/

I just love after all this time, there are still people with this problem.

Yep. This has become a massive annoyance of late. Some time in the last month is when it began happening. It dribbles stuff out in like 10MB chunks and spreads it over 5 minute intervals. Totally dumb, because in 99% of cases my entire update would be DONE in less than 5 minutes. So why not just let it happen? What's the purpose in making people sit around waiting forever?

Happening here too and the first time I've noticed it. I've just bought a new game and it's being paused/scheduled multiple times without my consent one bit. It's already happened over ten times in the last 30 minutes. The game should be installed by now. I hope Steam let us know what the hell is happening seeing as my settings are set to unlimited/full throttle no matter what.

Very unimpressed.

My downloads don't pause but it has a start delay of normally about 3 hours, it really sucks.

The dumb thing is, you can get around it by babysitting the download and repeatedly clicking on the "download now" button. It's the one with the line and an arrow pointing up, right under where it says the download is being scheduled for later.

If this was some kind of cack-handed way to spread out the load or something, it's not really that effective if you can simply force it to keep going. Which it does happily for a couple of minutes each time.

I gathered that much, it's just a pian because alot of the updates happen after I've gone to bed.

I thought so too, but why doesn't it happen to everyone?
It seems to happen to random people, regaurdless of their connection or location. Since I'm the only one out of my friends to have this and while my connection isn't great, it's not the worst either. If it's location, why isn't it happening to my friend who lives in a simular area about a hour away from me? I'm tempted to email support and ask them what the hell I did to deserve this.

I'll have to ask my roommate if this is a problem for him or not. If it's not, that would be stranger still since we're all on the same internet connection in the house.

Year later I have this too. Any solutions? It's prolonging Dloading times way too much :(

Nope, nope and still nope. And no one has a fix for it either.
