Invitation streams private or public?

Having a really hard time finding a relevant and succinct one-word answer to this question: Does inviting someone to watch you play open a public stream? I found the hyper-minimalist mystery meat interface so ambiguous that I couldn't even tell whether the stream was still running after they left, let alone whether it was private or public.
