Debit card declined for purchases on STEAM
every time i want to purchase anything on steam, it says the same error.

"Your purchase has not been completed. Your credit card information has been declined by your credit card company.

Note that in some cases, your credit card company may put a 'hold' on funds in your account, but you will not be charged. After correcting any errors in the information displayed below, please try your purchase again."

the problem is when i contacted the bank, they said i never even try to make the purchase. this was never a problem since this year. i have no problem purchasing anything before and no problem paying anything on other website or app or other game platforms. this only happen on steam. anybody can help? i'm tired of asking my friend to gift the game then transfer the money. it takes extra steps.

check if you have funds. if you do... check the info you entered is correct
Use a different card. Keep in mind, Valve can't force your bank to do anything. If they get a rejection all they can do isvrelay that.

Also keep in mind when you're talking to the bank, customer support isn't managing the systems in question and really only have a limited view. As far as they can see there may be nothing. But that may not mean there is nothing absolutely.

And to be fair it could be an issue with Valve's payment processor or bank, not impossible. But since most people aren't experiencing your issue, so it may be more plausible to focus on your end or options you can control to get results.

What bank/fop does your friend use? Have you tried setting yourself up likewise?

i always check if i have enough to buy anything. this has happen many times, and every time i make any purchase, i will always make sure the info is correct. i tried using a different card, but the result is the same. i also did try with other payment method but unsuccessful.
I have been experiencing this issue recently as well with same situation - have plenty of money in account, card works elsewhere online with same details and with Steam a few months ago, and the card issuer says they have no record of declining any purchases from Steam. My only guess is that Valve has changed something in their payment process backend that is denying certain cards.

Ultimately used a different card but it isn't ideal if you don't have access to another card or want to keep purchases separate.
Here something to may need to note.
- Ensure have enough.
- If live in country that does taxes instead of VAT that something have to take into account for.
- If there currency conversion that something have to take into account for as banks can charge rate on conversion, and the market rates for currency.
- Make sure you match the information you provide to your bank, if you told your bank you live at 123 rainbow road, you must put that same information at checkout on steam as well when that be sent to your bank to match that information.
I just tried to buy a steam deck. I was not only denied due to “and incorrect billing address” which isn’t the case, but I was also charged 700$, twice. Taking $1400 out of my bank account. No response from steam, my bank says there isn’t anything they can do either. What am I supposed to do about this?

Failed charges will drop away from your bank statement in a few days, depending on your bank.

The two charges you see are pre-authorizations. They can be performed with just the card number, expiration date, and security code. It's not an actual payment and will eventually expire thereby releasing the funds back to your bank account.

That neat part bank lied to you about not able to anything.

See when bank say to steam NOPE *slap steam hand* Steam like sorry we couldn't pull that money, when do it twice it happen twice. The bank still has the money, they're just being an jerk about it either due to thinking it was fishy scam, or because system not working correctly as it should.

Yes your money coming back to you, if a transaction failed, as long said failed on steam it means money is still with your bank, they need to update your statements showing you still have it. But if transactions say pending on Steam then means it trying to collect money but failed on the 1st hook, so try again with the bank after couple minutes, or so to complete the transaction.

Hope this helps, and yeah talking to higher up management if your bank has fraud department may be able to release your money back to you quicker.
Thanks for the help everybody. I feel better now although I’m definitely getting a new bank.

I'd shop around for a good bank. Start with ones that do not charge a fee to keep an account and from there sort which have the better "features" you need. If none of them fit the bill then move on to ones that charge a fee, pick the one with the lesser fee but better features. I have a chime account i use for general purpose purchases, it has no fee, has overdraft if needed, international transactions, the app has various options including freezing cards, digital/alt cards, etc, and a credit card option, combine that with the various perks they have and it is a pretty solid bank to go with if it is available to you. Checking now I have it as a payment option in steam, I dont remember the last time i used it for steam but it likely went well.
