Scammed for Valuable CS2 Skins, How Can I Recover Them?
Hello everyone,

I recently became a victim of a scam on Steam and lost several valuable CS2 skins, including a ★ Flip Knife, worth around 450 euros. I’m hoping you can help or give me some advice on how to recover my items.

Here’s what happened:

Fake message from a "Steam Valve agent": While playing CS2, I received a message that appeared to come from an official Steam Valve agent. The message was written in strange characters, almost like a script, and claimed that they suspected my ★ Flip Knife had been stolen from another inventory and needed to be "legalized." Although I initially thought it was a scam, I later received another message.

My account was allegedly suspended: The message informed me that my account had been temporarily suspended and that I needed to cooperate. They placed a notification on my profile saying the account was suspended and asked me to send proof of how I bought the knife.

Manipulating my account and friends: They asked me to send my items to another account or a trusted friend’s account, claiming they would be permanently deleted if left on my account. At that point, all my friends disappeared from my profile, but they later returned. It seemed like the scammer had full control over my account, just like a real Steam agent. When I tried to block them, it said "unable to block Steam agent."

Redirecting trade offers: I created a trade offer for my secondary account, but the scammer immediately copied my second account, set the same avatar, and redirected the trade offer to themselves. After that, they told me my skins were under "legalization" and would be processed for up to 8 days at most.

Steam has confirmed that my account was compromised, and the items were stolen.

My questions:

Is there any chance to recover my skins? I know Steam has a 7-day cooldown period, which likely applies to situations like this.

Has anyone experienced something similar? How did you resolve it? Is there anything I can do to get my items back?

Any advice or help would be greatly appreciated!

Thank you in advance!

You cant recover them at all.

The only thing you can do is to secure your account:

Steps to secure your account:
1. Scan for malware https://www.malwarebytes.com/
2. Deauthorize all other devices https://store.steampowered.com/twofactor/manage
3. Change passwords from a clean computer
4. Generate new backup codes for your Mobile App https://store.steampowered.com/twofactor/manage
5. Revoke the API key https://steamcommunity.com/dev/apikey (there should be nothing in the APIKEY)

And not give away your account information in the future.

I've done all that, but isn't there a 7-day cooldown for exactly these kinds of things?

Unfortunately, Steam does not return stolen inventory items or wallet funds.

Your items are gone.

The scammers were able to hijack your account and then baited you into facilitating a trade whilst your account was compromised. Not only did you allow our account to become compromised but you fell for every single red flag imaginable here as well as giving your items away.

Items lost this way are not returned https://help.steampowered.com/en/faqs/view/3B6E-B322-2400-8D24 and all you can do is report ALL accounts involved.

There are no such thing as 'official Steam Valve agents'.
And for future reference, your items don't have any true value.
Stop putting value on them.

The cooldown period is to safeguard accounts and prevent forward laundering along with protecting completed trades.

It's not there to reverse trades which have been authorised by the user even if the trade itself was contaminated.

The only “value” is in store credit.
