But if you only want to level up, you don't need to buy games, you buy the trading cards and craft badges only.
It'll always require money to level up, thats how it was designed.
You can get lots of points for free just from awards. Don't pay attention to guides; most of them are written by people who are confidently wrong. Read what Valve themselves wrote. Once you get points from awards, you can use those points to buy seasonal badges. You don't have to spend money.
