Can't hear my friend on steam voice chat

he can hear me but I can't hear him. both our headsets work, mine is brand new. wireless, i tested it in PC settings, it's all good. what do i do? pls help.

Make another self test at discord / skype , to make sure its working then recheck setting at steam.

ps.
selftest is discord mic test and skype has call echo , then get recorded playback.

if you are sure its steam and not own setting make a steam ticket, not the first time steam own sounds get issue and we all scrates out heads then windows is default and you have own sounds card driver, i could also so how can they keep make mistake with it, if thats the case. as you see its complaicated with so much hardware and 3 part that need to work togethter, ( your head phones software, windows sound with steam app. + sounds card own driver.

and now you understand test with discord or skype do selftest work in other app. ( then rest is steam settings or steam itself. ) this is a roughly cut through some step with not check sounds card driver and all other pc update, aka BIOS and chipset driver with onboard soundcard so many things in all in one product that our board actual is.


Feel free to know CCleaner or iobit driver check for thirdpart driver update your board might not know about or care if they are better optimized. ( do know the aggresive campaign they do in apps today. )

most here had enough of external apps, problem is your driver do not get update without them, unless you are skilled enough to ID and DL things from thirdpart software thats on our board.

i did tests for my headset and it worked fine my friend could me but I couldn't hear him. I'll play with it sa'more til it works.

Make sure your friend do same self test. ( if hes mic out put device is wrong or not working then you cant hear him,

and thats why you did own self test to hear own sounds.

and we are back at if both self test is working , make steam ticket and do recheck steam settings sound setting and output device.

and you can see how complicated this is, and we are happy for discord and skype in selftest.

Steam settings voice, so easy to make mistake on default output or headphones or speaker.


example i use windows settings to point at headphones mic, so all app is just default.
and its impossible for me to say all should do that, but most helper here will say almost a standard setup, other way is to change all app to headphone alot more setup with that way.
