12 days and still no refund to my debit card (open ticket)
I used the refund feature for the first time ever. I only owned the game for 2 days and played it maybe 5minutes even though it said 1.2hrs but that's probably total time the game app was open. The game ran poorly on my computer so I initiated a return ticket.

I requested a refund to my payment method USA Debit Card (Visa). After 8 days with no answer.. I opened a 2nd ticket which was responded to after several hours. They stepped in and closed my original ticket then refunded the game but put it in my steam wallet.

I politely informed them I requested a refund on my card but they replied:

"I will be happy to refund this purchase to the card, but it looks like the payment processor is still working on settling this transaction.

Once the payment processor has sent the funds over to Steam, I can process the refund. This may take up to a few days.

I will update your ticket once we are able to successfully process the refund."

I'm pretty new to steam and don't buy many games at all. This game was $50 so having this much in funds in my account is wasteful. Their reply doesn't make sense to me since my bank charge went through immediately on the 15th. I reached back out to them on the open ticket a day and a half ago but no response. What's going on and what do I need to do?

what you see on your statement is not the money going to steam instantly. the payment provider puts a HOLD on the funds. it can take a few days before the merchant (Steam in this case) actually gets the money.

I understand that but it doesn't take 12 days for funds to be released.

It can take however long your bank keeps a hold on those funds.

Typically, a few days but can be up to 30 days.

I'll call my credit union tomorrow and ask if the funds have been released but never have I had this issue with any other business in my 20+ years of banking with them.

I've seen some take 2 weeks and even 1 about 6 years ago that took 4.5 months but he was in Afghanistan and his bank was going through huge issues.

Definitely call your bank.

Just because you've never previously had a problem doesn't mean you will never have a problem in the present or the future. Sometimes things just go wrong due to glitches with the system or problems with IT updates etc... etc...

Update. Steam processed the refund this morning. Idk if it was from my nagging or what lol contacted bank when I woke up and they said that charge was processed over a week ago, so nothing was wrong with my banks end of the deal. Thankfully steam got it worked out. Delay could of been due to high influx in tickets due to spring sale making the situation drawn out.
