Thats it. And you dont want to know how many people actually fall for this and happily give all their items away. Its so bad that Steam had to write an entire FAQ about this "scam" and includes it in their help section.
They then try to ransom your account back to you as well as use your account to scam people on your friends list with the same or other tricks.
It's a scam to steal your Steam login info.
Block the people messaging you and report them to Discord for attempting a phishing scam.
It's always to gain access to your account and/or empty your inventory by various means. Sometimes if they're lucky enough, they can even coerce cash money by holding the account/inventory hostage, which they don't return anyway.
It's a variation of the confidence scam. Good on you for recognizing the BS.
Thank you guys for the insight. I felt it was a rather obvious scam, but I'm sure many out there fall for it - I'm assuming lots of younger kids who may not realize how incredibly inappropriate it would be for someone working for a giant platform to try and move the conversation off said platform. I reported the person on here for attempting a scam, and blocked them. The conversation never made it far enough to get to Discord, or else I would've reported them there as well. Anyway, thanks again!
