Download speeds

I have just finished setting up my pc today. Have downloaded first 2 games from steam, and steam is telling me my download speed is 40mbps at it's best, but when speed testing in the exact same spot in the house it says between 300-400mbps. Can anyone give advice?

By default Steam displays downloads in Megabytes per second (mb/s) where speed tests use Megabits per second (mbps).

Which would check out as 300 to 400 mbps is about 40 to 50 mb/s.

Which would check out as 300 to 400 mbps is about 40 to 50 mb/s.

Not quite 400Mbps is only 32MB/s so he's gettings considerably more than his speed test.

It definitely said mbps, it was taking over 10 minutes just to install a 3GB game.
