Widoczne gry

So the way Steam works is that any game that is installed on a PC is made available to anyone that logs onto their Steam account on that PC. The library files are not user specific. If a user logs in and they own a license to a game that is installed on the PC, they can simply click on Play and run the game instead of having to wait and download their own copy.

If there is a game that you don't want someone to see on your PC, you'll have to uninstall that game prior to them logging into their Steam account.

Here are some ways that you can solve this problem:
  • Purchase an external USB drive. Assuming you are using Windows, make sure it is formatted to NTFS. Add the drive to your Steam Library via Steam > Settings > Storage. Move all the games you don't want others to see to this new Library. Connect the drive only when you want to play your private games; otherwise, physically disconnect and hide the drive. Note, Steam may sometimes forget the location of libraries on external drives. You will need to point Steam to the library in the settings when this happens.
  • If you don't want to spend money on an external drive then a software solution is as follows:
    1. Make a list of the games you want to hide and write down their App ID number. The App ID can be found from the URL of the game's Store page. For example the URL for Team Fortress 2 is "https://store.steampowered.com/app/440/Team_Fortress_2/" and the corresponding App ID is "440." Now for each entry in your list of private games, write the App ID number next to it.
    2. Exit Steam by going to Steam > Exit.
    3. Next find and open your "steamapps" folder. For the default Steam installation, it should be "C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps." In the "steamapps" folder create a new folder and name it "z_hide."
    4. In the "steampps" folder, there should be many "appmanifest" files of the form "appmanifest_x.acf" with "x" being some number. Find the "appmanifest_x.acf" files that have the same number "x" as the ones in your list from step 1 and then move them to the "z_hide" folder.
    5. Start Steam.
The private games should now appear in your Library as being uninstalled. Check to see if your brother can see them from his account. When you want to play these games, exit Steam and then move the contents of "z_hide" back to the steamapps folder. To hide the games again you will need to find and move the appmanifest files again--a cumbersome task especially if you have many games to hide. If you know how to write scripts then the process can be automated and made less inconvenient.
