Unexpected Error when gifting

guys, how long does it actually Steam Support to reply, i really want to gift this game as an Christmas gift but somehow it always shows Unexpected Error, i don't have any other payment method and i really want to gift this game, can i still able gift this game? and what should i do with the unexpected error?

you either use a different method of payment or you wait for support. keep in mind that ticket times are going to be longer because of the major sales event going on.

I am having the same issue. I am trying to gift my son a game and it keeps saying there is an unexpected error and to try again later. I did put in a ticket yesterday, but having heard anything.

It's not like I have any choice, but my son was hoping to play some new steam games and is pretty disappointed. My sister tried to send the steam wallet to them directly but it wouldn't let her. Kind of a pain, I gift to them often from my account and never had an issue and it's not even a large amount of money.

So I put in a ticket and they said I had a "general restriction" and could not use my wallet to gift and said they wouldn't remove it. I guess I will be telling my family not to send any more steam gift cards as well as my parent groups not to use steam and they can stick with Roblox. They gave no reason why there was a restriction either.

That's unfortunate. I wish I had known there was a restriction on my account before hand. I had no idea. The error message didn't even say anything, just "unexpected error" Oh well, live and learn, no more steam wallet gifting in this family. Not that it will hurt them at all, but this deter me from using it in the future.

You seem very oppositional, do you work for steam? LOL LIKE no crap sherlock, I know wht they said, if I had of known in advance, i wouldn't have told my sister to send me the gift to my account. There has been information on when or why this happend. She isn't on steam, so couldn't send the gifts to my kids because they are not friends. I rarely use steam, I play other games, maybe dumping a hundred bucks into something you don't use is no big deal to you, but it is to us. Have the day you deserve, I will not be continuing this conversation with you.

Steam has a silent rule in place when it comes to wallet funds. The reason i say it's a silent rule is that many people don't know about it until it happens to them and they get a restriction placed on their wallet.

Steam will put a restriction on wallet funds used for gifting others once it hits a certain threshold. What this limit is, no one knows other then Steam and they don't share that information to the public. The reason behind the restriction is that using wallet funds for gifting can flag the account as being used for commercial use.

There are many accounts on steam who get hijacked due to lack of knowledge in how to secure their own accounts. These accounts once hijacked are used to sell/buy marketplace items for wallet funds. The funds are then used for gifting out large amounts of games, or to purchase high value market place goods in order to transfer the funds to someone else's account. This is money laundering method.
This can also fall under commercial use as they get others to fall for their scams by offering to buy them games using a stolen/hijacked accounts wallet funds. Such as charging others a small fee for games, for example give me 10 bucks via PayPal and i will buy you a 50 buck game using my wallet funds.

This is why steam has these restrictions. It can seem unfair to the honest user especially at this time of the year when their current spending behaviour changes from their normal routine and they send gifts more then they normally would, causing their account to get flagged by the system.

All you can do is try asking support if they would lift the restriction, but in most cases the answer is always no. If they do lift the restriction it will be a one time thing, as they wont lift it a second time.

I understand but I think not is unethical to put restrictions on a purchase without transparency. My sister would not have made the purchase if we had known I couldn't gift my kids. I don't play steam very much and doubt the funds will get used so frankly I
feel like Steam has stolen from my kids.
