All steam games crashing entire computer

I started having this problem a few weeks ago, both with brand new games (got bioshock infinite just now and I crashed before it even loaded the first mission) and with games i've previously 100%ed (ie. batman arkham city is now consistently crashing after 5 minutes or so of gameplay) I get no error messages, sometimes I crash completely other times I crash entirely but the blue ring on my power button stays on so I have to hard reset.
As far as I can tell my computer is not overheating as it s not hot afterwards and it will work fine until I load a game. The game will run fine up until it crashes which, as I've said, is about 5 minutes in.

tbh this happend to me yesterday on payday 2 I just got a blue screen on windows, I suggest wiping your PC for viruses and contacting steam for technical support

Sounds like something is dying in your PC if its affecting old games that ran fine.
Most likely need a new graphics card, although it could be many things.

If you get a blue screen, copy the error or message etc, and that usually explains where the problem is.

In the meantime, try running games on windowed mode. That helped me with my last PC when it was dying.

it's not blue screen the entire computer just crashes, I ran a whole computer scan on AVG free edition (fully updated) and everything was clear. Also I've tried varifying game cache, although I haven't yet tried windowed mode, I'm gonna have dinner then come back to you on wether bioshock actually worked in windowed, also thanks for the quick reply

As I said it's not blue screen I just have to hard reset (sometimes the lights are still indicating the laptop as on however it's just black screen so I'm forced to hard reset)
I just downloaded a new game, prison architect, and it crashed around 10 minutes in (only tryed in fullscreen)
I tried bioshock infinite in borderless windowed mode and it still crashed at around the same point (a few minutes in)
Also, if you're certain it's a hardware issue any tips for telling my parents I need a new £600 computer?

Same thing is happening to me.. coincidentally, I had to install a update for windows and visual c++. So I think both of ours is a software problem, and I have an AMD as well..

I ended up buying a new pc, http://shop.lenovo.com/us/en/desktops/erazer/x-series/x310/#tab-tech_specs, fankly it's probably fixable but I needed an update anyways
