...but clicking on 'Join a friends game' - and selecting a game 'in progress' - worked for me. Sounds like others^ have had success with this workaround as well.

that monster game goes untill the sale is over, so if you play and don't buy anything your probaly get 3 per day, unless you buy games then your get a card after 9 dollars spent

Well you aren't supposed to get the cards for playing unless you are level 5. If you hit level 5 before its over you get the cards. But playing should be enabled.

That said, I'm a bit over 5 and I can't play =P

This game is a joke. Over the years the Steam sales have been on a steady decline, at least IMO. And I've been here since the beggining playing Team Fortress Classic when Valve first launched Steam.

Million and a half people now playing, and once you've gotten into the game you can just quit and it keeps you signed into the game for the day... Hmm, just seems like a great way to lag up what sounds like an average game and annoy people who actually want to log in and play the game...
