This is newer steam option, but we are many that now got use to that option is there. now it seen as self explaned, and i hope it solve whatever issue is with that game own overlay.
It's same as steam "in game" option in steam setting then you are not in a game, steam mad things so complicated, or that person that made the topic has no clue how bad that word is.
i asusme you have not turn off overlay for all games,
whatout for other overlay can interfere with steam, this is seen before.
same as oldf dos game that use TAB ( tomb raider ) was one of them i played way back.
point is with your payday2 issue and hope reset game own ovarlay will fix whatever this is.
Do be in pause in game or meun, i mean shift tab in a online game, can be to much for some pc to have the game run in the background.
