Error when clicking "Accept Gift" to redeem a Digital Steam Gift Card

For my birthday, my daughter sent me a Steam Digital Gift card and I received an email from Steam with her birthday message and the amount she had gifted. There was a Accept Gift button. That took me to a Steam page where I can Accept or Decline. Clicking accept simply gives a error message "An error occurred accepting your gift, please try again in a few minutes.
OK". No matter how often I come back and try it is the same. Steam has taken her money and now there is no one at Steam to fix this error. In this day and age why is a large company like Steam having this issue in any case.
