Steam crashes when opening with one Windows account, but opens running with RunAs
Hello,

When trying to run Steam using steam.exe, it crashes and the following error appears in the event viewer:

Faulting application name: steamwebhelper.exe, version: 9.48.97.91, time stamp: 0x67982a17 Faulting module name: chrome_elf.dll, version: 126.0.6478.183, time stamp: 0x66956fee Exception code: 0x80000003 Fault offset: 0x000000000002f069 Faulting process id: 0x2fb0 Faulting application start time: 0x01db71de0e71a41f Faulting application path: C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\bin\cef\cef.win7x64\steamwebhelper.exe Faulting module path: C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\bin\cef\cef.win7x64\chrome_elf.dll Report Id: f0a2ea50-6a7a-40f7-9cb5-c52894a6d07b Faulting package full name: Faulting package-relative application ID:

However, running it by typing:
runas /user:AnotherUser "${env:ProgramFiles(x86)}\Steam\Steam.exe"
, it opens correctly and I am able to stream games from another computer.

What could be the problem with my main Windows account?

Thanks.

hello

i guess you are under w11 and running nvidia ?
so run regedit
and navigate to
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\SOFTWARE\Valve\Steam
check if you have the key
GPUAccelWebViewsV3
if not, just add it ,and as a dword 32bits with this name ( GPUAccelWebViewsV3 ) and give it value 0 as hexadecimal
all that without steam running
hope it will help you

ps ; thx for the call because i do not often update my steam client xd

hello
do you have another gpu inside it ?
so it can be advised to just disable one, sometimes webhelper does not know which gpu to use most of the time ...
and you can also compare the registry of both user for steam at
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\SOFTWARE\Valve\Steam and see if something is missing on the user that does not work correctly using steam ?
GPUAccelWebViewsV3
H264HWAccel
DWriteEnable
all theses are linked to gpu more or less
and last, do not forget that you have some logs into the steam/logs

it seems it was related to incorrect file permissions on the user profile folder. I was able to fix it by fixing te permissions with

icacls "C:\Users\USERNAME" /reset /t /c /l

thanks for your help!

i mean something prevent you run steam at that win OS and you look like have a system that need SFC check.

DISM.exe /Online /Cleanup-Image /Restorehealth
SFC /Scannow
chkdsk c:
chkdsk d:
chkdsk e:

and Intel is not a Full blood 3D card. its seen as a office pc.

you might can play games from 10 to 20 years ago in max performance rest is seen as donwhill from the newer they are.

Im sure you can find a browser game made, but they are not being seen as most games here as 3D games.

i will check with SFC later. i am just looking to play old games and use steam link to have my main PC stream games which may require more power.

thanks for your help.
It can be caused by truncation of the Windows User name that can break those User Group file permissions in the Component Store. :badluck:
