Steam Cache
How do I get steam to stop downloading the remotecache.vdf file?

I have tried turning off Steam cloud which has worked in the past, but it's not working anymore. Steam keeps corrupting my save because of the cache. Every time I delete the file Steam puts it right back. Last time deleting the contents of the file so it was empty and saving it fixed the problem but it doesn't work anymore. If I change the file at all, it automatically overrides my changes when I start the game.

I want this file GONE so my game loads properly. Steam refuses to comply. I'm really hating steam right now.

Uh it needs that because that's the file it refrences to know what stuff to sync.

Steam cant corrupt saves, the only thing it does is sync what's already on yoru system to their servers.

Uh.

I don't want it to sync stuff. I followed Steam support instructions same as last time, by deleting the contents of the file and it doesn't work. As long as that file is there, my save is corrupted and not loaded correctly.

I want it to stop putting the old cache in that file so my game loads properly.

There is ZERO reason for them to be syncing anything when I have steam cloud turned off. They need to fix their crap.

Hey, i don't recommend deleting the file since it needs to verify the game files so that you have all the progress you've been working on. Deleting the file might also just leave a couple of useless components that will waste your disk space so don't play an IT Specialist on it. Try these solutions and let me know if you got it fixed.

If you want to get it fixed with further issues:
- Change file's extension to .vdff
- Go to Steam > Settings > Cloud and turn off Cloud Synchronization.

If you want to get it fixed:
- Go to Steam > Settings > Downloads and then clear Steam Download Cache.
- Go to the [game] > Installed Files > Verify Intergrity of Game Files.
- Reinstall the game (No promises that it will work but should)

Have a good night. :tobdog:

I am not playing any "IT Support Specialist"

Ya'll are being condescending. I'm simply following the instructions I was given by support to resolve the issue.

I know the process to fix the issue, and it has worked before, but it's not working this time, because steam REFUSES to allow me to remove that file.

This happens because Steam cache is corrupting the way your save is being loaded. Please follow the steps below to resolve the issue:

Enable Steam Cloud for Snowrunner and launch the game at least once.

You have to locate the following folder: C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\userdata\yourSteamID\1465360\remote.

Where C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam is the Steam install path and may be different if you installed it in another folder. yourSteamID in userdata will be unique for you.

SnowRunner Save folder should have .cfg files in the folder.
Disable Steam Cloud Saves for SnowRunner: Library > SnowRunner > General > Steam Cloud > Turn Off.

Copy all the .cfg files from the unarchived folder to your Steam save files folder (remote folder).
Delete the remotecache.vdh file from here: C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\userdata\SteamID\1465360\remotecache.vdh.

Relaunch Steam Client. This will clear the Steam Client cache for a correct adjustment of the Fog levels on the maps.

Run the game, and check if the progress is correct.

Turn the Cloud Saves back on and choose Local Files - Upload To Steam Cloud when Steam asks about Cloud Saves Conflict.

If the problem persists, open the the remotecache.vdh file with Notepad and delete the contents of the file, but not the file itself, and try reusing the save again.

Please remember to leave feedback on this ticket to let us know how we're doing.

I wasn't being rude in any way, i was just saying to not play with the file to prevent any further issues. When it comes to the ways of fixing this, did you at least try what i told you?

I got it fixed. I used the support steps again and by "reload" I guess they mean restart. I had to completely shut down steam and restart it to clear the cache and now its working. It made a new vdf file instead of loading that old one. The game is loading my maps correctly.
