update on launch not working
Steam recently changed the wording for this option in Properties. Now the games I have set to update on launch show up in the "Scheduled" update section on the download page. Is there a fix for this or just wait for steam to fix it? (I 'm guessing this has been asked already but I searched and didn't find any threads. Sorry if it is)

They will sit in the Scheduled area until you launch the game.

Thanks. That seems odd--Unscheduled as it had been makes more sense--so both ones that update automatically and ones that update on launch get put in the same "area"? OK, I guess, as long as they stay there until launch/manual update. Thanks for the info.

I think I found the issue. I'm not sure that they would have sat in the Scheduled area--2 games today had dates and times when they would be updated. I checked settings and somehow the default behavior for updates had been set to Let Steam Decide (and it was apparently ignoring the multiple exceptions) so that's now changed to Update on Launch so hopefully that will fix it.

there is a global setting beyond each games setting, but i believe this data is stored in a local file so could have been lost

I don't know what's going on. Ever since the recent change in wording (new properties wording: Wait until I launch the game", old: "Only update this game when I launch it"), games show up in the Scheduled area with a time, even though they are all set to "Wait until...". The global setting is also set to "Only update at game launch" . The computer isn't on when the game(s) is scheduled to update so I don't know if it would be ignored as rawWwRrr above suggests. In the past, oddities like this tend to go away w/ time (steam fixes them I presume) so I guess that's the fix for now ("wait").

Note that the wording change didnt actulaly change functionality. It literally just changed the string for a process that's doing the exact same thing it did before. People also said the same thing the previous time the text changed, insisting that 'oh it didnt work that way' despite the fact that nothing had changed. Like people still insist that 'you could prevent updates in the old version of steam because the options said so' and that's literally not how it ever worked. They simply mis-interpeted the existing text, and when it was 'changed' to clarify what it actually did they somehow started freaking out

Oh, I agree about the wording. I do know that functionality has changed for me though (games used to show up in the Unscheduled section but now show up in the Scheduled section w/ a date and time for updating, even though the text below the game name says "update on launch"). I'm making no claim as to WHY the behavior has changed, I just know it has (for me at least), and it correlated in time w/ the text change.
