UK Mobile Broadband
I have UK EE broadband which runs around 40mbps but Steam cannot use the connection. Apparently there is something in the way EE handles IP addresses that stops Steam connecting. Does anyone know if any of the other three UK networks (Vodafone, O2 or 3) is acceptable to Steam?

You sure its not more a double router with 2 prevat scope issue.
and technicaly your isp could use such and your router is the secound,
( this is know as advance routing, requrie add route to class A/B/C scope Network ID )

Other then that you need a UK user that know them ISP. and how they did it in you locations.

ASK own ISP they should know this why you have issue with it, or do they have a ISP vip portal and you need to open for the traffic.

Steam already try to explan this, in steam help section.

Known Issues with Internet Service Providers (ISPs)
Important:
If you notice that your Steam connection only has issues during certain hours of the day (for example in the evenings between 5pm and 11pm), it is possible that your ISP is blocking or "shaping" your connection. Please test your connection at other hours of the day and contact your ISP directly if you believe this is causing the connection issue.

Some ISPs have been found to block ports required for the proper operation of Steam and Steam games:
012.net (Steam traffic blocked)
Bluewin (Firewall blocks Steam from provider side - must be disabled through provider's service portal)
Dutch Telecom (Steam traffic blocked)
ISPFree (Steam traffic blocked)
Micronet Broadband (Steam traffic blocked)

I had an unlimited data EE Sim in a Router for over a year and downloaded Steam games absolutely fine so your issue isn't EE specific. Likely the way you have a mobile hotspot setup??

Thanks SF for pitch in at UK ISP detail

Not pitching, stating a fact. I had what I said. Thus OPs issue is NOT specific to the EE sim, there is something else at fault.

I suppose I could have stayed quiet and leave OP thinking it is the EE sim and have them change ISP to find out the issue persists.

I refer you to this comment

<-- UK user
<-- Used an EE Sim

Thus you literally asked for me to speak up and when I do you talk to me like :poo:.....well done you :steammocking:

Do you think they switched to CGNAT (Carrier Grade NAT) after you left Supafly? That's sometimes the problem when someone says something like "Apparently there is something in the way [the ISP] handles IP addresses that stops Steam connecting."

If it's possible to switch the router to IPV6 only configuration, it might even solve the problem.

Just figured I'd mention it in case there has been such a change.

Not a CGNAT issue.

Steam requires IPv4 connectivity, so will fail to work properly with IPv6-only networks

That's possible. Haven't used them since November 4th 2024 so it depends on how long OP has been having issues.

But if their ISP now uses Carrier Grade NAT doesn't that mean they are sharing their IPv4 address with other users of the same ISP? If that's the case, and Steam doesn't support IPv6, then they are stuffed, I think.

Only two months! I bet it's unlikely the issue then. ;)

shared IPv4 address is not a problem as a client, only if you wish to host.

Yup, new year change put then Ettain pointed out Steam uses IPv4 only, I'd forgotten that, so the CGNAT idea is out

Iceira is not English and probably doesnt mean what you think was talking bad to you .
They probably mean thanks for entering the chat to help ..."pitch in "

/pɪtʃ/ informal. to start to do something as part of a group, especially something helpful: If we all pitch in together, it shouldn't take too long. [ + to infinitive ] When I bought this house, all my friends pitched in to help fix it up.

Possible but I rarely understand them and they frequently say I'm wrong, despite multiple others saying the same thing as me. So I default to that sort response if I don't understand them... Doesn't help with MS pooping with my head frequently :steamfacepalm:
