type out in full the CD Key registered to your Steam account
TL:DR. How I am supposed to provide this CD key, what it's even is it?

1. Steam has this stupid holding period on market cards, requires to download mobile steam in order to remove it.
2. After downloading said DEMANDED app, steam still doesn't do the double safety protocol.
I realized that my phone number is outdated.
3. Contacted support, to update said number, they demanded the above.

Support replied:

"That said, in your next message, type out in full the CD Key registered to your Steam account so we can easily investigate this issue. This can be a CD Key received from an online retailer or a physical store.

Then, attach an image of that CD key. The image should be a digital photo or scan of the CD Key in .jpg format, or a screenshot of the CD key as it appears in your digital purchase receipt. Please ensure that you submit a full-color image, rather than a photocopy.

Check out our Retail CD Keys article if you're having trouble locating any of your CD Keys"

What is it? Should I give a key from a random game? I don't understand how this is supposed to proof anything. Not all digital games have keys, and the ones that do, I have access from loging in, which is required to send a request to support... How useless and dumb is that?

Or is it a PHYSICAL retailer copy? Because if it's so, I have NEVER bought any.

To make things even worse, I no longer have an active account on the bank nor I remember the old card numbers (which was virtual), where I made the older transactions. My newest one was with PIX (Brazilian method of online payment), cuz my newest card was failling the transaction for whatever reason.

How do I solve this ANNOYING BS? I just want to sell the junk that is in my inventory without being bothered, but it seems to be too much.
One system requires another, that requires another.

What I am supposed to do if I no longer remember my old phone number?
If I don't remember/ have access to my old cards?
If I NEVER purchased anything retail, FROM A F.KING ONLINE market place, that sells DIGITAL goods.

This is so unbelivable annoying for no reason at all.

It's called security, you need to work it out with Steamsupport, no one in here can help you.

How in the world that will be safer than asking my real documents or to simply check the bank used for the last transaction?

Why would a digital retailer ask for a physical proof? I can't be the only person in the world thinking how insanely stupid that is.

Good lord, you do realize no one on the internet is going to babysit you....

It's your responsibility to keeping something as proof to your ownership, that including updating things if no longer have said things like old numbers, emails, mailing, or etc...

This same THING if you happen to lose your BANK card, you need PROOF of whom you claim to be HENCE the point of PROOF of ownership that is the point.

Say you change you phone number today.
Will you remember to update it in the 99 billion accounts that you may have spread on the internet?

I am logged in.
I have my e-mail.
I have my IRL documents.
I have the bank which made the latest trasanction.

Are you for real saying that a DIGITAL retailer should ask for a PHYSICAL evidence that said retailer does not sell?
But wait, you just said I should update 99 billion accounts I have automatically ever time I do something. Even if said thing wasn't intentional, such as this number change which happened a few years ago, due life and terrible from telephone company services.

Yes, the very first thing on the very top on my priority list will be to update my number from my steam account. Games are everything. I need to get my priorities straight.

Banks aren't that dumb useless. They ask for you IRL documents.

Not saying it is so, but all that could a user who stole/bought an account provide.
Steam support need "older/better" proof that the account is yours.

I've sent a random game cdkey.

But again, I fail to see how that would be relevant, beucase if I am logged in, which I am otherwise I won't be able to request anything from support.
Then I already have access to all my digital cd keys. (which most games doesn't have)

What if all the games I bought didn't had cd key? (luckly some have, but my point persists)

Then if I already have access to this data, how I am providing any additional proof of anything? This is just crazy.

I though the same issue, but honestly if they're asking for a cd key which I have access right now, may as well use another equally dumb proof.

Besides there's one thing that cannot be faken from the example above.

The bank account holds the owner data, which means name and address.
You can't fake that.

Either way it still falls on you for your responsibility, because you gave said number, and if want to use recovery by phone number, well whoops you forgot to give them new one, can't blame them for own fault as no one your mind reader, or has a crystal ball to predict your future.

Yes, if you BOUGHT a PHYSICAL GIFT CARD YES STEAM DOES SELL PHYSICAL gift cards they may be asking for that proof, or if you have redeem a VALVE game that PHYSICAL with CD key, yes these exist, yes it make sense they be asking for added proof of ownership.

Now IF YOU NEVER had a PHYSICAL product to redeem via Steam, then you have to EXPLAIN that to support, and they will work with you. FYI THIS IS A USER FORUM, not customer service just incase you didn't know....

Same thing with Banks, if you happen to only show one thing, and they ask for another piece of IRL document, and you happen not to have it on hand, you have to go back home to get said thing they ask, and come back hence work with support to getting verify that is the point.

Steam is the worst tecnology ratailer company to update info. I cannot think of any other company worse than, and I am from Brazil.

Also, if it was up to me, I'd leave the old number as is forever without changing anything, but steam DEMANDS me to download and install an 3rd program, which requires me to have an updated number... Which steam refuses to update.

Why would I purchase gift cards? They don't give cash back, they aren't convenient and they lead to money waste, and isn't even be corrected by inflation.
Say someone could eat glass, doesn't mean they should.
Valve what? Sorry don't play these games, and last time I saw a physical copy being sold, was in like 20 years ago. Forgot to buy my time machine.
Oh yeah, best part. Physical copy from a company that sells digital goods. Don't forget this part, that's the best line.

Sure, it's my faulty that steam has a stupid system beurocratic senseless system and is doing nothing except a major annoyance. 100% on me.

You may find it funny to waste your time and all that. But most people don't have time nor care about a game retailer plataform, not as much as you believe to be relevant/important.
Besides, how do you remember to do something when you forget? Make much sense?

Valve/Steam demanded you to get a new phonenumber? Sorry I feel that very hard to believe. I have the same number I've used for many many years and has never been demanded to change number.
If you changed your number by yourself, why keep the old one on the account? makes no sense imo.

You need to work with Steam support, as I said before, we in here can't assist you in any way.

I posted junk on market.
Some junk is being holded and requires me to waste time on e-mail to confirm, which will only be validated 1 month later.
To exclude this busy work and waste of time, steam DEMAND to download and install Steam mobile, for 2 step audentication security (or in reality so they can spy on me and show these download numbers)

I downloaded said spyware, but still didn't do anything about the initial problem.
I realized that my number is oudated, hence my statement.

Because in this case, steam IS, demanding me to update, in order for it to not bother me selling the junk in my inventory.

But while steam demands me to update my number, same steam also refuses to do so.
Which is glorious.

Are you talking about Steam guard authenticator app that from App store / google play? If yes have you LINK it to your account already? If yes then you can use your authenticator to verify phone number change, or even get code from your email to verify change when click on remove number from account.

Gift card exist hence the name, gift.... Another usage is those that happen not have bank card of their own, also this isn't meant for cashback, or to be used as a bank.

And yes people with OLD accounts have redeem cd keys for their account, so if never done it, then doesn't apply to you, which you talk to support, and work with them.

Steam asked me to do download steam mobile, which I did.
I am logged in it. But still didn't work.

My e-mail is verified.
I didn't receive anything in my phone, because as I said, it's outdated.

How else I am supposed to verify my number if I don't get anything? I just don't want to be bothered, but it seems too much of a ask.
nullable 23 ENE a las 5:42 a. m.
OP, you're not going to get sympathy because you don't like the account recovery process when you're complaining to people who've seen versions of your stories for like twenty years and decided long ago to keep their ducks in a row on important accounts.

There's lots of things you could have done to protect yourself and manage your account, you didn't do those things, so the process is painful. I bet after you get this sorted out you dot your i's and cross your t's, unless you're a glutton for punishment or you hate future you.

Like it or not, it's Valve's system, and if you want their help to recover your account you do their process. Or you walk away from the account, that simple. You do not need to understand all the why's, you just need to comply.
