games shared across accounts not in steam family
My brother and I are sharing the same computer a the moment and there are a few games that show up on each others libraries. They always say "from the library of (Gamer-tag)".
We want to turn this off as we do not share the same interest of game generas.
We are not in a steam family nor are we steam friends. We only share the computer. It should also be noted that he has only ever bought free games so his access to community content is limited unless he finally spends $5 USD.

Making games private in our libraries doesn't change anything either.

How can we turn this off??

You don't. You're using Steam on the same computer meaning you're using the same backing store, so to speak. Steam takes care of letting each of you play the same games, no issue here. This got 0 to do with anything family-rekated, it's simply because your sharing the same machine.

You can change your library filters to only display your games.

Also, make sure you're using separate system accounts, else there's high danger of cross-talk.

Steam is installed per PC. That means that anyone who logs into their Steam account on that PC can have access to every game that is installed on that PC. As long as that account owns a license for the game, all they need to do is click on Play to run it. This cuts down on space, as well, by not having to keep multiple copies of the same game installed.

It's been a while since I had that kind of a setup, but experiment with the library hide to see if this can work for each logged in user.
right-click > Manage > Hide this game

This would move it to the Hidden games section (View > Hidden Games). I'm just not positive it would only work for the logged in user. It's worth a try just to see.

If I am remembering correctly, only installed games will appear in someone else's library. The easy way to fix this is for both you and your brother to store your games on external removable drives--one drive each--which you would only connect to the PC when you want to game. Set up a steam library on the external drive and store *** all *** your games there. After you are finished using the PC, exit Steam and then remove the external drive. Assuming that the Steam client is installed in the default C drive, then any games installed there will be viewable to everyone sharing the computer even if they have separate Windows User accounts. Here you can store games that you have in common since there is no point in hiding games you both have or in wasting drive space with duplicate files. There is also a software solution which is more complicated.

Now that's a major pain in the ass. Setting filters to not display the other library is easier by an order of magnitude.
Great discussion to be a part of

Indeed. But what filters have you found to work?

There's one called "Group by library" and then collapsing Dominik's library makes his games gone.

Thanks Reboot. I was thinking about another thread and got things mixed. Though similar problems, the goals are different. Who is Dominik?

Thank you everyone!
I do have one last question. I am concerned that his games will show up on my profile when my friends look at the list of games I have.

Will his games show up there too?
