After I installed Windows 11 and Marvel Rivals whenever I tried to launch a steam game it just gave me a black loading screen and then crash, but for some reason the steam game still ran in the background and I cannot close it
Hello I ran into some weird issues with Steam when I upgraded my pc to Windows 11. Apparently Microsoft decided to end the support for Windows 10 which forced me to switch to their newer one. When I upgraded my pc to Windows 11 suddenly I wasn't able to play my Steam games anymore. I was trying to play Marvel Rivals and it kept getting stuck in the loading black screen that shows up when you boot that game and then it would eventually just close down that game completely. I tried other games in my Steam library and they just would not load, the other games I tried were Death Stranding and Balatro and both did not work.

I eventually tried uninstalling Steam which I was able to do, but now I cannot reinstall Steam because the folder where Steam used to be in my program files still has files it won't delete. Below are screenshots of folders I am not able to delete such as the bin, logs, steamapps, gameoverlayrenderer.log and in the steamapps in its common folder it still has game files for Balatro and Death Stranding. When I uninstalled Steam it also uninstalled all of my other Steam games I had downloaded except those two for some strange reason. Another reason why I uninstalled Steam was because for some reason every time I launched Steam it would keep launching Death Stranding and Balatro in the background, but I was unable to play either game or close them.

The error I kept getting whenever I tried to delete those files was "The action cannot be completed because the file is open in another program" so I tried googling this and I found a youtube video telling me to try to close those programs via resource manager. The problem is that my computer will not allow me to close those programs and I get an error from resource monitor saying access is denied. I tried closing Balatro and Death Stranding in both the processes tab and in the associated handles and both would not close, Balatro has a few programs that are apparently still running on my computer and Death Stranding apparently has several which is listed in the associated handles in the screenshot where I searched the term Steam. Further down in the associated handles I found some steam files still running regardless of the fact that I uninstalled Steam, there are some files listed as steamwebhelper.exe and vulkandriverquery.exe. The only way I can play my Steam games now is via my Steam Deck.

Also I dunno if this could be related to my Steam issues but whenever I try to use task manager to close a program it would just crash task manager. Actually task manager also crashes whenever I try to close it which is very strange. Task manager also does not show the logos for the applications that are running on my computer they are all grey boxes which you can see in one of the screenshots.

Windows 10 is supported until October 2025 and even then, there is really no threat so idk what all the commotion and fear is about.:badluck:

If you can, simply roll back to Win11 update 23H2. :chirp:

Shouldn't Steam just be fine on Win11 regardless? And I think I had an earlier version of Win11 when I downloaded it somehow before it asked me to update to update to 24H2. Also I didn't see much of an issue to upgrade to the newer OS even though they are ending service for 10 several months later.
That and I am unable to reinstall Steam because downloading Steam requires my Steam folder to be empty in my program files and I am unable to empty that file for some weird reason.
Just read this madness about the update 24H2 issues: :badluck:

Especially if using an Intel CPU.

Oh no way. Now interestingly, I have not updated to 24H2. My build is showing as 10.0.22631 for Windows 11.

Hi there! I wanted to see if rolling back to the previous windows helped fix your problem? I'm having the same issue, and I'm running out of ideas of what to do.

Hello everyone if you are having a similar issue like me, something that could possibly help is by doing a clean reboot. Below is a video that helped me end the game applications that would just keep running.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AjuC-7rMr7M

I managed to get the two games that would keep running to stop with the clean reboot, however when I redownloaded Balatro the same error happened again. But its fine because the clean reboot forces it to stop working in the background. The clean reboot also fixed my task manager, before my task manager would keep crashing if I tried to end a application or close task manager, but now its fine. I guess I will be playing Balatro and Death Stranding on my Steam Deck, I dunno if Marvel Rivals works but if it doesn't oh well hopefully my other games work just fine. Hopefully this solution works!
Marvel Rivals actually does not work and I tried a few more Steam games. Some worked some did not, the other game I tried that did not work was Vermintide 2 which sucks cause I really like that game. Suddenly my pc is like semi borked where certain steam games no longer work wtf.
